After the success of last years Birthday bash the birthday extravaganza had once again come back around for two of the biggest names in the music business… This was LIFE The Movie Part II: Mr Play and Mr Dagz Birthday celebration. This year Life was held at Scala and was always guaranteed to be a roadblock. The queue was one of the longest I have seen for a long time as it went clear up the road and around the corner! A few impatient people tried to kill the vibe but failed due to security keeping things under control and people in line.
As the movies and the Oscars were the theme, the men complied and looked dapper in exceptionally crisp looking suits and the ladies fabulous in their immaculate dresses. To continue the theme champagne was flowing all night and the bar clearly struggled to keep up with the demand. As the drink flowed so did the music with everything you wanted to hear and not expect to hear including Mr Plays infamous ‘back to the future’ set which included ABBA which was a big surprise to all of us! Masterstepz and Frisky joined in and also flung down some serious beats too performing great sets. L.O.C gave a fantastic performance starting off with the Crazy Frog which had everyone doing the dance like they were going to speed off in the middle of the dance floor! EVERYONE was revving up and pumping down on the gas and doing the crazy frog! As the good vibes continued we found upstairs was just as lively with the likes of Reggie ‘Heavy’ Styles living up to his name getting everyone hyped. As the night went on it all got too much for the power supply as it stopped! Play and Dixy then began a freestyle of Fresh Prince of Bel Air which had everyone joining in including myself. It got very old skool when talk of when “T-Mobile used to One 2 One” and “the days of X-Men” had people in stiches. The running back and forth to the different rooms gave everyone extra exercise on those calves on top of the dancing they were doing too. Here are just a few comments of what a few people had to say-
“I haven't raved until 6am since the days of exposure!” “When I heard the Crazy Frog I had to get on my moped blood” “I’m so tired but I am going to go until the lights come on” “Play and Dagz deserve an Oscar for this rave!”
The finest DJ’s were on the decks all night in both rooms including Mr Play & Mr Dagz, G-Ents, Special Touch, Masterstepz, Elliot Ness & Daze, Mello Primetime, Gal Flex, Frisky & Fireman, Goodfellas Inc, Fab Vibez, Hotsteppa, Chris Finesse, Smooth Connection, Cold As Ice, Reggie Styles, Carlos, DJ Quincy, DJ Yardie, Roadblock Ltd and Cold as Ice. As the night drew to a close people began socialising with a chilled out vibe until a burst of jungle, house and garage and then soca got everyone up for one last time. Big up all the people who joined in the train for follow the leader! An excellent night for all and the matching vibes of the people what time will the next one go on until! maybe 8am? Who knows? Happy Birthday Play and Dagz!
