On Sat 12th March, Market Bar was transformed into the perfect place to find the perfect gentlemen (or lady!). It was compulsory for all guys to be suited and booted and the ladies didn't leave the guys disappointed as they were sure to make an effort as well. G-Ents promised to show the guys how to be a 'g-ent' (gent - get it?!), well they surely showed them how to dress like a gent - Dagz, Longers, Buju and Scribbz all made their mark in their matching clean cut white suits. Ravers followed their lead dressed in true Oscar style as you can see by the scrolling photos to the right. The sophisticated ravers were musically entertained by the promoters and performers of the night, G-Ents alongside Smooth Connection, Road Block Ltd, Mr Play, Mistery G and Scottie B. The music policy was a mixture of R & B, Bashment, Soca, Old School Garage, Hip Hop and Reggae flavours. All the latest tracks were played and not forgetting the 'back in the day' favourites. This was definitely an event not be missed - all those who made it to this ticket only event was treated to a night of good vibes, where you could wear your Sunday best without the stress of feeling overdressed! This created a tasteful atmosphere with a crowd buzzing with class and style.
Promotion City caught up with a few of the ravers in the place including Fonte in his black velvet HLC suit complete with matching bowler hat, and walking stick who had a little ‘lyrics’ for us that summed up the night!
“The gyal dem are looking nicey nicey and the genkleman dem ah scream… we want-ee want-ee! Only ting left is fe de man dem to politely walk on over in a sophitiscated manner... after that its is simple, the genkleman dem cyan getty getty!”
We managed to catch up with D-Tee from Damn Trouble Records who again looked extremely sharp P-Diddy style! He stated that he was having a good time and he was glad to come out and represent the gentlemen… Damn Trouble style! Big up D-Tee.
A humorous part of the night was when a very intoxicated Mr Dagz showed his unhappiness on the mic at the late arrival of Snagger who was due to film the night. “Snagger, I booked you from 12 - 4 and you are turning up at 3.15, Snagger I’m sleuing you…. I’m angry! Scribbz run the riddim… The next tune played was…. Caplelton’s - Sleu dem! For all those of you who are rubbing your hands thinking this was beef… sorry to disappoint you! Don’t get it twisted this was all love and was all light hearted fun, finishing off with a thumbs up and smile from Snagger! Good on ya Snagger mate!
This was the first ‘How to be a Gent’ but it is already obvious that this has the potential to be bigger and has already outgrown the Market bar….so time to move on to a bigger venue please G-Ents and lets see if us ladies can take up the challenge to show them how we roll like REAL ladies!
Hot off the press! It has just been announced that we can EXCLUSIVELY be the first to tell you that the sequel to How to be Gent returns – “Ladies Meet the Gents” on May 29th 2005 @ Context bar (formerly Bar Med!) So put your order in for your tickets quick!!!
